Every family has at least one special dish that everyone loves for Thanksgiving, and they’ve got to have it every year!
For my family, it’s Grandmother’s dressing! For years there really wasn’t a recipe. Grandmother just kind of throws it together and it turns into greatness!
I had a dinner party this weekend where we all brought our favorite Thanksgiving dish. Genius idea, I’ve got to tell you!! And this was my chance to get my hands on Grandmother’s recipe.
I kept trying to call Grandmother, but she was never home. That woman stays on the move! She can be hard to catch! So I called my mom, and luckily she had the recipe. So here you have it:
Grandmother’s Dressing Recipe
Ingredients
1 package of white cornbread – 2 to 3 days old
1 package of yellow cornbread – 2 to 3 days old
6-7 pieces of bread, toasted but not brown – leave out for a day
2 cans chicken broth
3 raw eggs
2 large onions – finely chopped
1 cup celery – finely chopped
1/2 cup of butter – melted
1 Tablespoon of sage
Directions
– Preheat the oven to 325 degrees
– Sauté onion and celery in the butter
– Combine all ingredients really well
– Spoon the mixture in a lightly greased 13×9 baking dish
– Bake uncovered for 1 hour or until golden brown
Yields 8-10 servings
